Our capital city is...LONDON!

Didn't we tell you?! We went on a trip to London last week to take a look at the human features and famous landmarks. (Don't worry, we didn't really go! We used our imagination to turn KPNS into St Pancras train station and got the underground from Keller Class to the hall).

In 'London', we looked at some of the famous landmarks found across the city including, London Eye, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Elizabeth Tower and the Houses of Parliament. We learnt that St Paul's Cathedral burnt down during the Great Fire of London and had to be rebuilt. We also found out that the very special crown jewels are kept somewhere within the Tower of London.

We had to be careful crossing over the River Thames, we didn't want to get wet! Some children forgot their return tickets back to KPNS, so I had to lock them in the Tower of London dungeons (only kidding!).

Back in the classroom, we used recycled materials to recreate some of the London landmarks and played with the small world resources to make our own busy capital cities.

Art

In art this half-term we have been looking at cities, skylines and landmarks. Our beautiful watercolour cityscapes are on display in our classroom already, but last week we created some AMAZING drawings of famous London landmarks in the style of Stephen Wiltshire. These drawings are excellent, and Keller Class were even able to apply their skills of shading and blending.

I have been really impressed with the engagement during our London topic and I know the class will be even more excited to learn about the Great Fire of London after half-term!

Next week is national Safer Internet week. Watch this space for some updates on how we will be participating in Safer Internet week next week.
