Year 6 - Autumn 1 Key information

Find out what we will be learning in the first half term in Y6!

Welcome to Year 6! We had a lovely first day yesterday and the children settled in really well. We learnt a bit more about Rosalind Franklin and made origami DNA.

Our first history topic this year is WWII. Please see the attached document for more information about what we will be doing this half term. To support our learning, I have booked Partake History to do a WWII day for us. They will be visiting on Thursday 19th September.  During this day the children will:

  • Shake your hips and move your feet to two popular dances of the 1940s.
  • Investigate original artefacts and meet an ARP warden and his ‘sweetheart’.
  • Face the reality of having to evacuate your children. What WOULD you do?
  • Find out what rations you’d be entitled to.
  • Take part in a craft session and decorate the hall for a ‘good old knees up!’

In order to contribute towards the cost of the visit, the cost to you will be £12Please pay the £12 on Arbor by Tuesday 17th September. Information about how to pay will be sent out later today.

If your child would like to come to school dressed as a child during WWII they are more than welcome to.

Homework:

- Be in the green zone on Doodle maths and Doodle spell - please look out for assignments on both of these, including spellings that link to the units we will be doing in school.

- Read at least 3 times per week and fill in your home/school book. Don't forget to start working towards your Bronze reading awards!

PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays - please make sure your PE kit is in school on those days.
