National Poetry day in Y6

We have written poems inspired by a picture of a lighthouse.

Today is National Poetry day and to celebrate, we have written poems inspired by a picture of a lighthouse.

We started by thinking about what we could see in the picture and then thought about what we would be able to hear if we were there, and what our emotions might be. Finally, we thought about what questions we have about what is going on in the image. We created this grid:

We then took one idea from each section to write our own poems! Some children wrote several verses and some also had a go at adding detail to their poems to turn it into part of a narrative:

The children should be very proud of their writing today, they did a great job. Have a look at our final poems below!
