Your child has been given a small yellow book to practise the new sounds they are learning in school. This book is a great way to rehearse the sounds and read words speedily. 

On the first page is the sound and on the reverse side there is the picture and phrase which we teach to help children remember the sound. Underneath this, there are three words for them to read containing this sound and three review words containing previously learnt sounds. 

At the back of the book, you will find a list of the sounds they are expected to know by the Key Stage 1 Phonics Screening Check in the summer term. You can tick these sounds off once your child is confident with them and that way you can focus your practise on the words they are less happy with!

These little books are a fantastic way for your child to practise their speed sounds before reading their coloured phonics book and book bag book.
