Y4 Spring 2 - key information

This term, our topic will be Raiders and Traders, where we will explore the question: What was life like during the Dark Ages?
We will be learning all about the Anglo-Saxons, examining who they were, where they came from, and why they settled in Britain. We will also explore their way of life and, as part of our studies, delve into the fascinating discovery of the Sutton Hoo ship burial. Here what we will be learning this term;
Our class text this term will be The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Raúf. If possible, feel free to purchase a copy so children can follow along in class.
Times Tables
This term, we will be focusing on times tables in class to support the children in preparation for their upcoming Times Tables Check in June.
In Stan Lee class, the expectation is for children to complete at least three times tables games per day (this should only take 5–10 minutes). Additionally, if they are finding a particular times table challenging, they can practise it using Doodle Times or Hit the Button.
Each week, I will select three children who demonstrate commitment and hard work in their times tables to choose a reward from our prize box.
I also want to take a moment to say how incredibly hard all the children are working on their times tables—keep up the great work!
These are our school expectations.
- Doodle: Children should remain in the green zone each week on Doodle Maths, Doodle Spell, and Doodle Times.
- Reading: Children should read at least three times a week and record it in their home-school diary.
- PE: Children must bring their PE kit to every session, including appropriate footwear.
- Reading Awards: Children should aim to complete their Silver Reading Challenge (found at the back of their home-school diary) or their Bronze if not yet completed.
- Times Tables: Children should go on EdShed every night and complete at least 2–3 timed games (this should take 5–10 minutes).
