Living things and their habitats
How do scientists know how to group animals?
Our science topic this half term is 'Living things and their habitats'. We will be learning all about how to classify living things. We started off by thinking about what classification means and started to look at 'observable characteristics' of different animals. This means what we can see when we look at them, such as number of legs, what their skin looks like, whether they have a tail etc.
We looked at a range of different animals to see if we could identify their observable characteristics and then thought about which animals had characteristics in common and might be grouped together. We also looked at a reasoning task about grouping animals and decided which statement we agreed with, using observable characteristics to justify our answers.
