A helping hand
Welcome back! We have had a super start to the new term and I’m looking forward to all the exciting things we have got planned over the next few weeks.
Lennon class has had a busy and exciting start to year 2!
Lennon class have had an amazing start to year 2! They have been working incredibly hard and showing great learning behaviours which is great to see. |
Hello all!
Welcome to Year 2! I have had a great time meeting you all over the past few days and I'm very excited about our year ahead!
We have had another busy, fun week this week.
On Wednesday we had our final massive maths session of the year. Some of us went into Year Two to work with Mrs O'Connor. In the Year One classroom, we turned a sports day activity into an opportunity to practice addition and subtraction and counting in 2s. We were very lucky to have some Year Six children help us with this. Click here to see photos from the session.
We visited the woodland area to create nature bracelets and listened to a story under the trees. We recapped the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees and found some common wild flowers to stick on our bracelets.
Our school performance Oliver! is taking place next week, so we have been spending some time rehearsing our songs. There is still time for you to book a ticket if you have not done so already. It is a fantastic show and all the children are having a great time taking part.
We have our school performance coming up soon!
Please head over to our 'Sports and Enrichment' blog for your child to practise their songs at home.
I have attached the costume letter which was handed out before May half-term as a reminder for your child's costume and how you can order tickets for the show.
REMINDER: Please send costumes in no later than Monday 11th July.
Sports week 2022 was a big success - thank you, Miss Robinson!
Year One took part in lots of fun activities including:
Contemporary dance and Bhangra dance
Netball
Didi Rugby
Parachuting
Races!
We were lucky enough to see some fantastic sports in action too! We had an exciting assembly with Olympian gold gymnast Sam Oldham and watched one of our very own Year 6's demonstrate her amazing horse riding skills.
Head over to our school gallery to see several albums worth of photos from across the week.
We have been enjoying the lovely weather this week in Anning Class.
We have completed some 'Wild June' activities and collected some wildlife from our school grounds to create a wild plant picture. We enjoyed observing the summer plants and saw lots of insects buzzing around. Click here to see our lovely photos.
We have also created some fantastic Andy Warhol art work for the Keyworth Show art competition. You can see your child's art work on display at the show on Saturday 2nd July in the village hall. If you do not want your child's work entered into the competition, please let me know.
Welcome to the final half-term of Year 1!
Our topic focus this half-term is a history unit all about transport. Our lessons will be based around the question 'How and why has transport changed over time?'. We compare transport from the past and present and discuss how these have changed. We will also learn about the exciting inventions of the Wright Brothers and George Stephenson and explore how they changed travel around the world. You will find the knowledge organiser for this unit at the bottom of the page.
In science, we will continue to learn about the four seasons and their features. We will create our own Anning weather station where we will observe and record the weather conditions and end the topic by comparing our Keyworth weather with sunny Spain!
Here are the other subjects we will be covering this half-term:
Literacy: The Adventure of the Queen's Hat, instructions
Maths: Place value to 100, money, and time
Science: Seasonal changes
Art: Seasonal collage, watercolour skies
DT: Weather station equipment
Music: Vivaldi's Four Seasons, making rhythms and beats
Jigsaw: Changing Me
RE: Jewish Stories
We have had an exciting week here in Anning class - the perfect way to end Summer 1.
Please head over to the gallery to take a look at some photos from Willis' visit. A big thanks to Mrs King for allowing us to borrow her doggy for the morning. We have learnt a lot about how to look after goldendoodles!
We ended the week with a celebration of our Queen's platinum jubilee. All children had a great time making flags and crowns and especially enjoyed our whole school picnic! Click here to see our photos.
Phonics Screener
Year 1 will be completing their statutory phonics screener during the first week back after half-term. Yesterday, I sent home some resources to help your child prepare for this. These are just ideas and should not take more than 5-10 minutes a day to complete, and will help your child remember all the new sounds they have been learning so far this year.
Have a lovely half-term break and I will see you on Monday 6th June.
On Friday morning, children and staff at KPNS will be celebrating the Queen's platinum jubilee.
Our morning will consist of a range of fun activities including a special jubilee assembly, fun craft sessions and a whole school picnic on the field!
Year 1 and F2 children will be joined together to complete two craft activities with myself and Mrs Inglis. We will be making our own crowns and flags to bring to the picnic. I know that they will be so excited to show you what they have made after school.
As we are having a picnic outside, please may we ask that you send your child in with a packed lunch.
To celebrate the jubilee with an extra special sparkle, we encourage your child to come to school wearing their best red, white and blue clothes!
