Science week in y3

Find out what we got up to during Science Week in Y3

Hello,

This week we have celebrated Science week as a whole school and Y3 have taken part in a range of activities.

Mr Cresswell kick started Science Week by introducing this in a whole School assembly. The theme this year is ‘time’. Time is key to so many discoveries in science, technology, engineering and maths. You can find out more here: | STEM

SciTech Competition:

This year, Miss Rayns asked all the classes to design and make a rollercoaster for marbles. We had some marvellous creations! Those who took part needed to consider the number of turns, how the marble would exit and dimensions. We decided to test run our AMAZING creations and take part in a marble run heat. You can see what we got up to here: Keyworth Primary and Nursery School - SciTech competition!

Learning about a famous Scientist:

In Vipers, we learnt about Sir Issac Newton. We learnt about his early life, his experiments, and important discoveries he made such as gravity. We learnt that gravity is a force that pulls objects towards the Earth.

 Whole Class Experiment:

We also took part in a whole class experiment and explored how different sized particles interact with our respiratory system using a hands-on approach by recreating an upper and lower airway system.  The children demonstrated their curiosity by asking lots of important questions such as ‘if our airways are blocked can this lead to choking?’ ‘Do your airways,, affect asthma’ and many more!

We have had such a fun and inspiring week, the children have shown such a keen interest, which has been a delight to see!
