Firefighter Visitors
We had some exciting and brave visitors this afternoon!
Year 1 got to meet some real firefighters today!
We saw their specialist equipment and their safety uniforms and some of us even got to try on the uniform! We had a tour of the fire engine and learnt all about the important tools they use to fight fires and save lives.
When they left, we saw the flashing lights and heard the siren which they use when they are responding to an emergency.
In the classroom, we discussed how people tackled fires in the past and recapped what we learnt about The Great Fire of London from our history topic in the spring term. We know that they did not have fire engines, safety uniforms or specialist equipment to fight the fire in 1666 and this was one of the reasons the fire spread so quickly! We thought about how fire services have changed over time since the Great Fire of London.
