Our Battle of Hastings Re-enactment
This morning, the Year 2 children created a rousing re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings! We split into the Norman Invaders, lead by William, the Duke of Normandy and the Anglo Saxons under the leadership of Harold Godwinson.
The children had a fantastic time, pretending to row across the English Channel, make a shield wall and create a convincing battle! Well done Year 2.
Edward the Confessor dies with no heir to the throne.
4 candidates declare their interest in the throne and Harold Godwinson is crowned King.
Harold Godwinson marches his army to Hastings.
William and his army set sail across the English Channel.
William marches his army to Hastings.
The Saxons create a really strong shield wall.
The battle commences, but the shield wall is impenetrable.
2 Saxon soldiers charge and leave a gap in the shield wall.
King Harold receives an arrow to the eye!
William leads his victorious army away from battle.
William is crowned King on Christmas Day 1066.
