A window into y3

Find out what we have been learning and doing!

Year 3 has settled well into classroom routines, showing great focus and responsibility. We are following the Keyworth Code well, which helps us create a respectful and positive learning environment. We’re learning to work as a team!

Class Artwork

On our first day of Y3 , we created beautiful artwork inspired by Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel to space. As part of this project, we also created a timeline highlighting key facts about her life and achievements. This helped us combine creativity with learning about an important figure in history and space exploration.

Literacy: Portal stories:

In Year 3 Literacy, we have been enjoying our class read of Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, exploring the characters and exciting plot! We’re unsure if Fantastic Mr Fox will ever be caught! We’ve also been learning to retell The Garden, a portal story, through our story mapping, imagining the setting and using drama to understand the story more deeply. Alongside this, we’ve worked on improving our writing through short bursts of writing exercises, spelling, and grammar to become better readers and writers.

Y3 Library visit:

Last week, Year 3 visited the library, and we have been relishing the books we picked up, enjoying new stories and learning more each day (including mythical creatures, caves and creepy crawlies). Please remember to sign up for a library card so you can continue exploring a wide range of books. For more information, please: click here

Maths: place value

In Year 3 Maths, we have been working on understanding place value, focusing on the value of each digit in numbers up to 1,000. It’s important to keep practising place value skills by completing our DoodleMaths activities at home to support our learning in school. This helps us build confidence and strengthen our understanding of key maths concepts.

Geography- EXTREME WEATHER

In Geography, we have been learning about extreme weather, exploring different examples such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. We've also studied climate zones around the world, placed these on a map and thought about how these influence the types of extreme weather different regions experience. Additionally, we’ve looked at how storms affect us, including the impact they have on communities and the environment.

Science-aNIMALS AND lIVING THINGS

In Science, we have been learning about living things, focusing on the importance of a balanced diet and understanding how much of each nutrient our bodies need. We've explored different food groups, such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals, and how they help us stay healthy. This has helped us understand the role of nutrition in keeping our bodies strong and energized!

A reminder about homework expectations.

- To read at least 3 times a week at home (or in Reading Lair) and for home-school books to be signed every week.. It opens at 8.30am every day and Y3 children must be accompanied with an adult.

- For children to remain in their green zone on Doodle maths and Doodle spell (this is approximately 10 minutes every day). The children can find their new passwords and logins in the front of their home school book and Doodles have already been set which link to the maths and spelling we are covering in class.

It is important that your child does their Doodles every day rather than in one big chunk once a week. This is because the window that I look at is for the last 7 days and this shifts every day. Jemison class are currently at 59% for maths and spelling which means several children are not currently in the green zone.

Please support us by supporting your child with their homework.
