Spring 2 Key information

Welcome to Spring 2!

I hope you are all feeling refreshed after the holidays and ready for the exciting weeks ahead. We have a lot of wonderful activities and learning opportunities planned for the students, and we can't wait to get started.

What will we be learning about this half-term?

Below, you'll find our History and Science Knowledge Organisers, which outline the key learning for this half-term. Additionally, you’ll see the spelling units we’ll be covering in class.

We will also be visiting Beaumanor for our residential on the 12th-13th March and more information can be found on this blog: Keyworth Primary and Nursery School - Year 3- residential-Beaumanor Hall: 12th-13th of March . There will also be a meeting about this on 25/2/25 : Keyworth Primary and Nursery School - Beaumanor Hall meeting on 25.2.25

What is our class text for this half-term?

Last half-term, we loved diving into the captivating world of The Iron of two exciting short chapter books: The Great Flood and The Great Cave by Terry Deary. This half-term we will be looking at ‘Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes.  Children are welcome to bring their own copies to school and read along with us – it’s a great way to build their love of reading!

What are the school homework expectations?

  • Reading: Please ensure your child is reading at least 3 times a week at home and that their home-school reading books are signed each week. You’re also welcome to attend Reading Lair to complete this together!
  • DoodleMaths and DoodleSpell: Children should aim to stay in their Green Zone, which means completing approximately 40 minutes of practice each week. Spelling units can be found below.
  • Silver Reading Challenge: Encourage your child to work toward their Silver Reading Challenges, which are located at the back of their home-school book.
  • Class Blog: Check the class blog regularly to keep up with everything we’re doing in school!

PE

Year 3 will have PE sessions every Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon with Miss Robinson. Please ensure your child is prepared with the correct PE kit for each session.

PE Kit includes:

  • Red top
  • Black shorts or joggers
  • Jewellery must be removed, and longer hair should be tied up.

As some PE lessons will take place outdoors, please provide additional layers for colder days. All kits should be clearly named to avoid any mix-ups.
