Fantastic poetry in Y6
We used a poem called 'The Dragon' as inspiration to write our own poetry.
We read the poem below and used it as inspiration for our own poetry:
The Dragon
The dragon pauses,
still as granite.
Its empty eyes stare,
dark as space diamonds.
A tense tail curls
round glittering gems.
Its rusted scales scrape together
as it slithers towards you.
It opens stale jaws
and a row of jagged teeth
clack and click.
The dragon’s claws dig
into plates of gold
and rustle silver coins.
Leather wings stretch,
catching the wind’s uplift,
swirling into the sky.
Leaving behind,
a glimmer of fiery breath,
a shimmer of fear.
The children used the same structure as in 'The Dragon', writing about a different part of their creature for every verse. They chose an image of a werewolf, a basilisk, a kraken or a griffin to inspire their poems, and some chose their own creature to write about.
