  • Our new big Idea: Build it up

    This half-term we are so excited to be introducing the children to the world of designing and building.  We are going to be investigating lots of different structures, including houses, bridges and castles. We will also be finding out what an architect and an engineer do.

    Over the half-term we will also be learning the story of 'The Billy Goats Gruff' and we will be inventing our own version of the story.

    Here is an overview of the big ideas for this half-term. We will be focussing on a couple of ideas each week and our weekly vocabulary will be linked to them.

    This half-term we are so excited about introducing the children to the world of fairy tales and classic stories. Over the half term, we will be looking at a range of books and eventually, this will lead us to creating our very own stories. We will be focussing really closely on the story 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' and even  learning how to retell this all by ourselves.

  • CELEBRATING HANUKKAH AND WHAT DOES WINTER FEEL LIKE?

    This week we are exploring the big idea questions:

    • How do people celebrate Hanukkah?  
    • How do people get ready for celebrations? 
    • What does winter feel like? 

    We will be sharing these wonderful stories with the children to help us explore these questions: 

     

    • Remember next Friday is 'Christmas Jumper' day and our Christmas Fair (children to wear Christmas jumper or anything festive/bright & colourful).
    • Big thank you to everybody that has brought in their builder's costumes- if you haven't, please could these be in as soon as possible as we have dress rehearsals soon. Please speak to a member of staff if there are any issues with this.
    • (F2) We think that all children who have now completed their Doodlemaths challenge have received their gold star. However, if anyone has been missed as our system resets regularly please speak to Mrs Gerrard or Miss Inglis. Many thanks.

  • HOW DO PEOPLE CELEBRATE DIWALI?

    This week we are exploring the big idea questions:

    • How do people celebrate Diwali? 
    • How do people get ready for celebrations? 

    We will be sharing these wonderful stories: 

     

     

    We will be learning all about Diwali, the Festival of light that is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs all over the world. We will be sharing the stories above and finding out about the story of Rama and Sita. We will be making diva lamps, rangoli patterns and paper lanterns. We will be trying some special food and dancing to Diwali celebration music! 

     

    We will be singing along to this song:

     

    • As the weather gets colder, please can we ask that all children come to school with a suitable coat with a hood, so we can get outside and be warm no matter what the weather!
    • Children in need this Friday (17th November) see information here. Children are invited to wear something spotty! 
    • Please see this link for information about our Christmas Show and what the EYFS children will be wearing - whole school 'Top of the Pops!'
    • Huge thank you to everybody that has already sent in their celebration photos - they are great for bringing our topic to life and making it 'real' for the children. There's still time to send these in on tapestry if you haven't done so already. 
    • We are all out of socks! If anybody has any donations of socks for the unit for when we have to change children, it would be much appreciated.
