  • Year 3 Sea Lions!

    Welcome to a new academic year and what a fantastic start we have all made! Sea Lion class have been eager to learn and what a busy three days we have had!

    We have been busy compiling facts all about Sea Lions for our class display, practising our handwriting, writing letters to our future selves as well as recapping upon place value in Maths. We have also named our cuddly class Sea Lion- Snowy!

  • A Token of Friendship

  • Our RNLI visitor - Mr Readhead

    Our visitor from the RNLI came in today and what a lovely afternoon we had learning even more about Grace Horsely Darling!

    We looked at some of the modern day equipment that we use now and compared it to the equipment Grace had to use when she did her daring rescue with her father.

    There is even a lifeboat named after our very own river Trent.

    The most expensive lifeboat to purchase is the 'Shannon' which costs £2.2 million and then you need a special trailer to get it into the water - another £1.3 million.

    We found out that 95% of the RNLI staff have a normal day job and have a special pager that tells them when they are needed for an emergency. They do not get paid for saving peoples lives! They are  volunteers.

    The children realised how important it is for people to raise funds for this charity as a way of saying thank you to all of the RNLI who help to keep us safe at the seaside and on our rivers.

  • Filling a Welly for the RNLI

    The children in the Magpie class have responded in a fantastic way to the challenge of raising funds for the RNLI this past week.

    Today we had a look inside our welly and decided to count up the total we had raised so far.

    An amazing maths lesson was born!

    The younger children in the class became great at recognising the different coins. We sorted them into separate piles of coins the groups then calculated the total amount of coins donated so far.  Lots of 2, 5 and 10 times tables being put to good use. The good news is ...... we have raised enough to enable the RNLI to buy a special set of thermal gloves.  The halfway total was £29.78

    We are also looking forward to our visitor who is a representative for the RNLI. Mr Denis Redhead is coming in to talk to the children tomorrow and I am sure he will be impressed with the children's knowledge og Grace Darling and her daring sea rescue.

  • Mindfulness Moments - A lesson outside.

  • A Musical Morning

    We had a very musical morning on Friday.

    As part of our Land Ahoy topic the children were played a piece of music by Rossini from his William Tell Overture - The Storm!

    By just listening to the music the children were transported into the middle of a storm!

    They were asked to draw lines or shapes in response to the music. Every child created a different piece of work. The music went from being quiet and calm to loud and frightening.
