Egyptian cartouches
Over the last half term, we have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians!
Year 5 have been working hard in art lessons with Miss Robinson (the lady who has been covering for Miss Peck) learning all about hieroglyphics and the Egyptian cartouche, which was a clay jewel worn by pharaohs and other important Egyptian people. It was also placed in their tombs when they died. The cartouche would have the owner's name written in hieroglyphics - like a name tag!
We have learnt how to write our names in hieroglyphics and created our own clay cartouches. The children have had a great time doing this, although carving the delicate letters into the clay was a bit of a challenge! Have a look at some of our pictures below!
